ACE Referral Leads to Arrest of Individual Accused of Stealing and Selling Pre-Release DVDs
An individual in Tennessee was indicted by a federal grand jury for stealing and selling pre-release DVDs, which were subsequently distributed tens of millions of times on pirate sites before their official release dates. This indictment resulted from an investigation and referral by the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), the leading anti-piracy coalition. The charges include two counts of criminal copyright infringement and one count of interstate transportation of stolen goods. If convicted, the individual faces up to five years in prison for each copyright infringement count and up to ten years for the transportation of stolen goods count.
