After Mahadev, money laundering case against 8 betting apps over 2023 IPL matches

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a money-laundering investigation against eight betting applications, including Fairplay, for unauthorized broadcasting of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and accepting bets during the 2023 season. This action follows a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Viacom18, the official IPL broadcaster, alleging that these apps illegally streamed matches and promoted betting, causing significant revenue losses. Prominent Bollywood figures have been implicated for endorsing these platforms, leading to further scrutiny. The ED’s probe aims to address digital piracy and uphold intellectual property rights in India’s sports broadcasting sector. (India Today)
