Anti-Piracy Campaign Sees Record Engagement, Celebrates Winner at UKCA Christmas Gala

The Film Content Protection Agency (FCPA) recently concluded its latest anti-piracy campaign, achieving unprecedented engagement from cinema staff across the UK and Ireland. Traditionally, the FCPA conducts a 12-week campaign each quarter, engaging approximately 3,000 cinema staff through educational quizzes designed to enhance understanding of and vigilance against film piracy. However, this autumn’s campaign, condensed into a 10-week period, saw participation more than double to nearly 7,000 entries, with a significant increase from independent cinemas, contributing almost 1,000 entries. Major cinema chains such as Cineworld and Showcase have integrated the FCPA quiz into their staff training programs, underscoring the industry’s commitment to combating piracy. The increased engagement is attributed in part to Omnex, a cinema technology service company, which collaborated with the FCPA to double the usual reward, offering a £2,000 cash prize. The campaign culminated in an award presentation at the UK Cinema Association’s annual Christmas Gala on December 5, where Lucy Johnston from the family-operated Pavillion Cinema in Galashiels, Scotland, was honored on stage and received the £2,000 cheque. She expressed her delight, stating, “It really shows that anyone can win, no matter which cinema you work in.”
