Cloudflare Must Block Pirate Serie A Domains and IP Addresses to Comply with ‘Piracy Shield’

The Court of Milan has ordered Cloudflare to block domains and IP addresses associated with pirate streaming services that illegally broadcast Serie A football matches. This directive is part of Italy’s ‘Piracy Shield’ legislation, aimed at combating unauthorized live sports streams. The court determined that Cloudflare’s services, including its content delivery network (CDN), DNS resolver, WARP VPN, and reverse proxy capabilities, were being used to circumvent restrictions imposed by the Piracy Shield system. Additionally, Cloudflare is required to identify and disclose information about customers utilizing its infrastructure for illegal streaming, such as connection logs, IP addresses, timestamps, and traffic volume. This ruling underscores the increasing legal responsibilities placed on internet service providers to prevent the distribution of pirated content.
