Consumers’ group pushes for bills to block pirating websites
A consumers’ group in the Philippines is urging the Senate to pass pending bills aimed at blocking pirating websites to protect the creative sector from significant economic losses. Senate Bills 2150 and 2385, along with House Bill 7600, seek to strengthen the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines by including site-blocking provisions to combat online piracy. The House approved its version in May 2023, but the Senate bills remain pending. Advocacy groups highlight that online piracy not only harms the entertainment industry but also poses cybersecurity risks to consumers.
