DAZN considers terminating Ligue 1 broadcasting contract
DAZN, the primary broadcaster of France’s Ligue 1, is contemplating terminating its contract with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) at the end of the current season. This consideration arises from DAZN’s dissatisfaction with the LFP’s efforts to combat piracy and the lack of content cooperation from certain clubs. The broadcaster has also faced challenges in subscriber acquisition, with only approximately 500,000 subscribers in a country of 68 million people, falling short of the 1.5 million needed to break even. Ongoing mediations have yet to yield significant progress, and DAZN is evaluating the possibility of an early contract termination, which could lead to legal disputes with the LFP.
