DoodStream Can’t Comply With Court Orders, Major Investor is a Russian Dude

DoodStream, a video hosting platform accused of facilitating large-scale piracy, has failed to comply with multiple court orders from the High Court of Delhi to remove infringing content. In March 2024, the court issued an injunction requiring DoodStream to eliminate all links to copyrighted material owned by major Hollywood studios, Netflix, Amazon, and Apple within 24 hours. However, the platform’s operators, based in India, have not fully adhered to these directives.

The operators, Raja Durai and Sarvesh Chandran, cited technical challenges in removing the vast number of infringing links and expressed an inability to implement certain anti-piracy measures due to infrastructural limitations. They also revealed that a significant investor in DoodStream is a Russian national, which they claim complicates compliance with the court’s orders.

Despite the court’s attempts to enforce compliance, including an interim injunction aimed at restraining the site’s operations, DoodStream remains active, with its domains continuing to attract substantial traffic. The ongoing non-compliance has led to contempt proceedings against the defendants, highlighting the challenges in enforcing copyright laws against digital platforms with complex international ties.
