Many users believe that employing VPNs offers protection; however, experts clarify that VPNs do not safeguard against malware, phishing, or data breaches prevalent on unauthorized streaming platforms. These illicit devices often come with unverified apps that can expose users to scams, identity theft, and financial losses. Reports indicate that illegal streamers lose significantly more to scams compared to non-pirates. Sky has criticized Amazon for not taking sufficient action against the proliferation of these “jailbroken” devices, which are believed to account for a substantial portion of piracy in the UK.
