Illegal online money gaming platforms face heat: 357 sites blocked, 700 under investigation
India’s government has blocked 357 illegal offshore online gaming platforms and is investigating 700 more for tax evasion. The crackdown, led by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), revealed these platforms evaded taxes by not registering or concealing transactions. Collaborating with other agencies, the government froze thousands of bank accounts linked to these sites, seizing over ₹120 crore. Several Bollywood celebrities and influencers were found promoting these platforms, prompting warnings to the public about financial and legal risks.
