ITIA suspends tennis officials over betting corruption
The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has suspended three tennis officials—Luis Rodriguez, Antonio Sosa, and Wellingthon Lopez—for betting-related corruption offenses committed between 2018 and 2021. The officials were found guilty of entering false data into match scoring devices to facilitate betting, violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP).
-
Luis Rodriguez received a lifetime ban and a $15,000 fine for manipulating scores in six matches in the Dominican Republic between 2018 and 2020.
-
Antonio Sosa was suspended for five years and fined $3,000 for offenses related to two matches in 2021. His suspension is backdated to October 2022, making him eligible to officiate again from October 2027.
-
Wellingthon Lopez received a four-and-a-half-year suspension and a $1,000 fine for offenses in two matches during 2019 and 2020. His ban is backdated to October 2021, rendering him ineligible until April 2026.
These actions are part of the ITIA’s ongoing efforts to uphold integrity in tennis, following recent sanctions against five players linked to a Belgian match-fixing syndicate led by Grigor Sargsyan.
