Man arrested in global piracy case
On April 29, 2025, a 47-year-old man from Penmaenmawr, Wales, was arrested by the City of London Police’s Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) on suspicion of leaking unreleased Hollywood films online. He is believed to have obtained thousands of films, TV series, and songs without proper licensing and distributed them via a torrent site. The leaked content included two Hollywood films released before their official dates. Authorities seized two laptops, several hard drives, and numerous discs from his residence. The arrest resulted from a joint investigation between PIPCU and the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The suspect has been released under investigation.
