BREIN Releases Annual Piracy Report: IPTV is ‘Top Piracy Threat’

BREIN’s 2024 crackdown
Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN shut down 155 illegal sites/services, blocked 11 platforms, 9 IPs, and 525 domains via DNS. They also removed 160 proxies and dismantled 46 IPTV/VOD subscription services .

IPTV identified as top threat
IPTV saw the highest rise in illicit distribution and was declared the biggest piracy threat facing audiovisual creators .

AI and other media on radar
BREIN investigated illegal training datasets used for AI, seized illicit vinyl distribution, and monitored increases in piracy of video and books. Music piracy, however, remained stable .

Coordination with authorities
The Dutch fiscal police elevated IPTV piracy’s status, enabling criminal investigations. BREIN also collaborated with Europol, Eurojust, EUIPO, and law enforcement for coordinated enforcement .

Scale of action
In 2024 alone, BREIN completed 339 files, 179 investigations, took down 47 streaming sites, removed 166,945 search results, ended 160 trader operations, and handled 3,677 cases of illegal ads
