Inside a major investigation into tennis match fixing linked to gambling
French authorities are conducting a major match-fixing investigation linked to sports betting, charging three French tennis players in October for allegedly agreeing to lose matches in exchange for cash and recruiting others into the scheme. Investigators uncovered a broader network involving players, former players and intermediaries aged 23–29, suspected of organized fraud, corruption of sports participants and money laundering. Prosecutors and police have been probing unusual betting patterns — such as heavy wagers and irregular on-court performance — and are tracking suspicious financial flows to build the case. The investigation began after abnormal betting activity at a 2023 tournament triggered scrutiny, and authorities are coordinating internationally to pursue additional suspects and indictments. Betting data from the French gambling authority and betting platforms are key for distinguishing between poor play and deliberate fixing.
