Netherlands proposes stricter gambling regulations, expansion of regulator’s powers
The Dutch government plans stricter gambling regulations, expanding the Kansspelautoriteit’s (KSA) powers. Proposed measures include raising the online slots age limit to 21, stricter advertising rules, and enhanced enforcement against illegal operators. The KSA will also gain authority to block unlicensed sites and access more gambling data. While the industry supports targeting illegal gambling, concerns remain that stricter rules may push players to unregulated platforms. The new laws are expected to be finalized in 2025 and enacted in 2026.
