More than 400 cases of ‘revenge porn’ reported to police
In Northern Ireland, over 400 cases of ‘revenge porn’ have been reported to the police, with 325 women and 93 men victimized. This alarming trend highlights the urgent need for robust legal measures to combat the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. The Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020, known as Coco’s Law, criminalizes the distribution of intimate images without consent in Ireland, carrying penalties of up to seven years in prison. Despite such legislation, the prevalence of these offenses underscores the necessity for continued efforts to protect individuals from this form of abuse.
