Morocco Hosts Anti-Piracy Summit as AFCON 2025 Approaches
Morocco is hosting a high-level international anti-piracy summit ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)to tackle the anticipated surge in illegal live streaming of matches and audiovisual content. The conference — organized by the Moroccan Copyright and Related Rights Office (BMDAV) together with France’s INPI and the EU Delegation, and supported by INTERPOL, the Motion Picture Association and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment — brings together regulators, law enforcement, judicial authorities and private partners to share best practices, improve cooperation mechanisms, accelerate blocking of pirate sites and strengthen technical and legal capacities. Officials warned of a high concentration of illegal IPTV and streaming operators targeting audiences across North Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and pledged a “vast operation” to pursue offending platforms through all necessary legal measures. The initiative is also part of a broader strategy to make Morocco a regional hub in coordinated anti-piracy efforts beyond the AFCON event.
