MPA and Mexico’s Patent and Copyright Office Sign MOU to Strengthen Anti-Piracy Collaboration in Latin America

The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) — together with the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) — have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation against illegal streaming and digital piracy across Latin America. The agreement enhances a public–private enforcement framework by enabling the exchange of intelligence on pirate streaming operations, supporting capacity-building efforts, and identifying new ways to deter intellectual property violations that hurt the creative economy. Mexico’s IMPI Director General, Santiago Nieto Castillo, said the partnership boosts enforcement capabilities and reflects shared goals to reduce piracy’s impact on the Mexican economy. Larissa Knapp, MPA’s Executive Vice President and Chief Content Protection Officer, emphasised Mexico’s key role in global anti-piracy efforts and the value of coordinated enforcement actions region-wide. The MOU formalises an ongoing relationship between IMPI and ACE — which includes more than 50 major entertainment companies worldwide — to tackle growing threats from IPTV and streaming piracy.
