Nintendo Wins $2M Settlement Against Switch Piracy Seller

Nintendo has won a $2 million settlement against a man from Michigan, Ryan Daly, who was accused of selling devices that enable piracy for Nintendo Switch.  Daly ran “Modded Hardware,” selling tools like the MIG Switch flashcart and MIG Dumper which, while marketed as backup tools, could run pirated software.  Although Daly denied wrongdoing and represented himself in court, he agreed to the settlement.  Under the terms, he must pay $2M in damages, permanently stop selling or distributing modded Switch hardware, cease reverse-engineering Nintendo systems, and even stop sharing links to related material.  The case underscores Nintendo’s aggressive efforts against piracy and may have chilling effects on modding communities.
