No need to amend law in light of AI porn case, Hong Kong privacy chief says
The head of Hong Kong’s privacy watchdog, Ada Chung Lai‑ling, stated that existing laws—including the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance—already sufficiently cover AI‑generated deepfake pornography, as they are technology‑neutral and principle‑based. She emphasized that complaints involving non‑consensual AI porn would be handled under the same frameworks used for personal data misuse and that existing criminal statutes on obscene image disclosure may also apply. Chung declined to comment on specifics of the ongoing case involving a male law student accused of creating over 700 deepfake images of female classmates, but confirmed a criminal investigation is underway.
