One of the world’s largest illegal Premier League streaming sites has been shut down
One of the world’s largest illegal streaming sites for the Premier League, known as Calcio, has been shut down in an anti-piracy enforcement action.
-
The site was hugely popular, with over 120 million visits last year.
-
Though serving audiences across Europe and the U.S., Italy accounted for about 80 % of its traffic.
-
The servers were located in Moldova, though the site largely catered to Italian users.
-
The shutdown was carried out after investigators, including the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) in cooperation with DAZN, approached the operators.
-
DAZN’s representative said that dismantling operations like Calcio is key to protecting fans, preserving jobs, and upholding the value of live sports.
-
This is the second major crackdown on an illegal streaming site in recent weeks, following the takedown of Streameast in August.
