Paris court orders wider Ligue 1 piracy blocks
The article says the Paris Judicial Court issued two rulings in favor of the French Professional Football League and its media arm, widening court ordered blocking aimed at illegal streaming of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. The orders cover not only infringing websites and IPTV services, but also services used to bypass ISP blocks, including VPNs and alternative DNS. It cites French regulator Arcom saying a majority of users who access illegal services rely on VPNs or alternative DNS to get around blocking. It also notes a first time requirement for DNS4EU to implement blocking measures, and quotes the league organizations saying the rulings broaden their anti piracy approach to more technical intermediaries while supporting the legal market alongside clubs, broadcasters, and distributors.
