Piracy continues to have a strong impact on the Spanish audiovisual industry

Spain is grappling with significant challenges due to digital piracy in its audiovisual sector. A recent meeting at the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences highlighted that 61% of Spaniards consider it acceptable to access online content illegally for personal use, surpassing the European average of 50%. In 2023, there were over 5 billion illegal accesses in Spain, resulting in an estimated €33 billion in illicit revenue for criminal organizations. Notably, 92% of users reach these unauthorized platforms via search engines like Google, with 90% of such sites being ad-supported. Industry leaders are advocating for enhanced educational initiatives and stricter anti-piracy measures to combat this pervasive issue.
