Pirate CDNs Fueling 1,400 Russian Sites “Use EU & US CDN Infrastructure”
A recent report by Russian cybersecurity firm F6 (formerly Group-IB) reveals that approximately 1,400 Russian pirate streaming sites are utilizing content delivery networks (CDNs) hosted in the Netherlands, United States, Ukraine, Germany, and France. These CDNs provide vast libraries of pirated content, facilitating the operation of these illegal streaming platforms. Notably, the Alloha network dominates the market, supplying content to 61% of these sites. Other significant players include Rewall (42%), Lumex (11%), Kodik (9%), and HDVB (7%). These services not only offer extensive video libraries but also integrate advertising, with embedded ads accounting for 36% of all advertising on pirate streaming sites. The preference for overseas hosting complicates enforcement efforts, as these CDNs are beyond the immediate reach of Russian authorities.
