Portugal sets €215.3m online gambling revenue record in Q3

In the third quarter of 2023, Portugal’s online gambling revenue reached a record €215.3 million, marking a 36.1% increase from the same period in 2022. This growth was primarily driven by the online casino sector, which generated €133.4 million, accounting for 62% of the total revenue. Player spending on online games of chance also hit a new high of €3.65 billion, with slots comprising 82.3% of this amount. Conversely, online sports betting revenue declined for the third consecutive quarter, totaling €81.9 million, a 2.5% decrease from Q2. Despite this, player spending on sports betting rose by 12.1% year-on-year to €390.5 million, with football being the most popular sport, representing 71.4% of bets. Additionally, the number of self-excluded players increased by 42.5% to 196,600 by the end of Q3.
