Reality of IPTV and ‘dodgy’ firestick blocking ‘piracy shield’ launched to take down illegal streaming

In 2024, Italy’s communications regulator, AGCOM, launched “Piracy Shield,” an advanced anti-piracy system targeting illegal IPTV networks accessed via devices like modified Amazon Fire Sticks.

The system blocks unauthorized streams of premium content, including live sports and entertainment, by intercepting illegal IP addresses and domain names.

In its first month, Piracy Shield blocked 528 IP addresses and 114 illegal streaming sites.

As of January 2025, it has blocked approximately 6,900 IP addresses and 35,000 domain names, significantly disrupting illegal streaming operations.

This initiative underscores the increasing efforts by authorities to combat digital piracy and protect intellectual property rights.
