'Revenge porn' in Serbia: Crime without penalty
In Serbia, the unauthorized sharing of private sexual images, commonly known as “revenge porn,” is on the rise, with perpetrators often facing no legal consequences. A recent investigation by the association OsnaZene revealed that tens of thousands of users share explicit content daily on platforms like Telegram, including images of incest, child pornography, and non-consensual intimate material. The European Institute for Gender Equality reports that 90% of victims are women and girls. Despite the severity of the issue, Serbian society frequently blames victims, suggesting they provoked such actions. In response, the Autonomous Women’s Center launched a petition titled “Swear on the Law,” gathering over 20,000 signatures to urge authorities to criminalize revenge porn, as neighboring countries Croatia and Montenegro have done.
