This decision has sparked significant backlash, with the governor of Kumamoto, Yashiro’s home region, labeling it “unforgivable” and questioning whether it constitutes “revenge porn.” Makoto Ono, representing Yashiro’s official website, condemned the move as “absolutely unacceptable” and reported that legal requests to halt the release have been ignored. The company claims ownership rights to the images. Public outcry has led to over 7,000 signatures on an online petition and widespread condemnation on social media under the hashtag “Protect the dignity of Aki Yashiro.”
