"Revenge Porn?" Nude Photos Of Dead Japanese Singer On CD Sparks Row

A Japanese record company plans to release a CD featuring two nude photographs of the late singer Aki Yashiro, taken privately by her former partner when she was in her 20s. This decision has sparked significant backlash, with the governor of Kumamoto, Yashiro’s home region, labeling it “unforgivable” and questioning whether it constitutes “revenge porn.” Makoto Ono, representing Yashiro’s official website, condemned the move as “absolutely unacceptable” and reported that legal requests to halt the release have been ignored. The company claims ownership rights to the images. Public outcry has led to over 7,000 signatures on an online petition and widespread condemnation on social media under the hashtag “Protect the dignity of Aki Yashiro.”
