Sky demands Amazon tackles football fire stick piracy

Sky has criticized Amazon for not doing enough to combat sports broadcast piracy, highlighting that Amazon’s Fire TV Stick devices are widely used to illegally stream Premier League football matches in the UK. Nick Herm, Sky’s Chief Operating Officer, estimates that such devices account for about half of the UK’s football piracy, resulting in industry losses amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars. He has called for Amazon’s collaboration to tackle the issue, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to prevent the installation of unofficial apps on these devices.

Amazon responded by stating its commitment to promoting legal content consumption and highlighting its policies against selling illicit streaming devices. The company also co-founded the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition dedicated to shutting down global piracy operations.
