Sky’s Industrial-Scale Pirate IPTV Blocking Becomes a War of Attrition
In 2023, UK broadcaster Sky obtained a High Court injunction mandating internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to pirate IPTV services distributing its content without authorization. This injunction, notable for its dynamic nature, allows Sky to determine the timing and duration of these blocks, leading to the blocking of over 4,500 domains and subdomains associated with pirate IPTV services. Despite these efforts, pirate operators have employed domain generation algorithms to rapidly create new domains, resulting in a continuous cycle of blocking and evasion. This situation underscores the challenges in combating digital piracy, as enforcement actions are met with adaptive countermeasures from infringing parties. (TorrentFreak)
