Super Bowl Illegal Streaming a Chance to Rethink Copyright Law
In the lead-up to Super Bowl XLVI, U.S. authorities intensified efforts to combat illegal streaming of NFL games. On February 2, 2012, as part of “Operation Fake Sweep,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in collaboration with the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, seized and shut down 16 websites that provided unauthorized streams of NFL content. Notably, this action marked the first time domains in the .tv top-level domain were seized, reflecting a broader approach to enforcing copyright laws across various digital platforms.
