Tollywood is Losing the War Against Piracy
The Telugu film industry, known as Tollywood, is grappling with a significant surge in piracy, exacerbating existing challenges such as declining OTT and satellite markets, and a downturn in the Hindi dubbing sector. Post-COVID-19, audience reluctance to frequent theaters has intensified the industry’s woes. Recent films like “Thandel,” “Robinhood,” and “Mad Square” have seen their HD versions leaked online on release day, leading to substantial financial losses. Producer Dil Raju has called for a unified industry response to combat piracy, emphasizing the need for collective action among producers. Establishing dedicated anti-piracy teams, possibly with government collaboration, is being considered as a strategy to address this escalating issue.
