Treat revenge porn in same way as child abuse content online, MPs told

Revenge porn should be treated in the same way as child abuse and terrorist content online, an expert has told MPs. Doing so would mean non-consensual intimate images (NCIIs) could be quickly blocked from being viewed on the internet, the Women and Equalities Committee heard. Current protections in tackling what is a growing problem are not sufficient, the committee was told. David Wright, director of the UK Safer Internet Centre, said: “We need to treat non-consensual intimate images in the same way as we treat child sexual abuse material and terrorist content. “We need to have a system in place where we can block that content, we can remove that content, we can prevent it from being uploaded in the first place.” He said the current system is “not good enough” and that the problem is “growing”. Mr Wright added: “We need to have a system in place where we can block that content, we can remove that content, we can prevent it from being uploaded in the first place.” He said the current system is “not good enough” and that the problem is “growing”.
